Welcome to YAOS - live musical entertainment at its best

Octagon Theatre in YeovilYeovil Amateur Operatic Society is one of the region's most successful musical production companies and has won over 20 national awards in the last 25 years - more than any other in the West Country.

YAOS produces two shows a year - March and October - at the Octagon Theatre, situated in the centre of Yeovil with adjacent public car parking. The theatre seats 620 and has one of the largest stages in the South West.  There is also an excellent restaurant where theatre-goers can enjoy a relaxing meal before the show, as well as a licensed bar and large seating area, including an outside terrace.

A flow of enthusiastic performers and supporting members, willing to devote huge amounts of their free time, put on an array of dazzling shows.  We generally employ professional directors and this is reflected in the high standards achieved.  We also benefit from the services of a professional orchestra, aided by an experienced sound and lighting crew.

"Venice" by Ken Nichols
Our next show is "The Gondoliers" by Gilbert & Sullivan, from 5th to 10th October 2009.

This new award-winning version vaults the action from the mid 18th Century to the exuberant 1920s, including a resetting of the "Cachucha" into a "Bee-Bopping" Charleston.  Complete with squealing flappers, the odd gangster and a line-up of eccentric "Royals", this show is full of movement and fun!

The Gondoliers is being directed by Alan Spencer, with musical direction by Lynne Merrifield.

Our charitable fundraising continues, with many thousands of pounds donated to local worthy causes over the years.  Charity Registration No. 272621.
